Class Collision: Fall From Grace - Annette Mackey

Annette Mackey, B.A. Music: “I love to write. Whether it’s music or stories, I’ve never been bored because my brain is always working a mile a minute. There is so little time to get everything done! If only I could write as fast as I think.”

Product description: Class Collision: Fall From Grace: YA Historical Fiction, transitioning into adult fiction.

Born to wealth and privilege, ten-year-old David, arguably the most spoiled, obnoxious kid alive, finds his greatest enjoyment tormenting the maid. That is... until he is kidnapped for ransom and left for dead. Thrown into a world he knows nothing about, he spends the next several years in an orphanage where his claims to fame and fortune only fuel years of torment. Finally, he escapes, hoping to make it back home. Instead, he meets Linda. Having lived among boys for so long, he doesn’t know how to handle his feelings for her. She is both irritating and intoxicating. Not that it matters. With looks like hers, every boy in the county is chasing her, and David, with his scraggly clothes and long hair doesn’t stand a chance. Then, when circumstances push them together, they both find that sometimes, people aren’t always what they seem. Set during the Great Depression, Class Collision: Fall From Grace will transport you to a simpler time, filled with heartache and unexpected love.

Q: What will e-readers like about your book?
The price. Not to mention that it's hard to put down, so luckily, you can take your e-reader anywhere.

Q: Why did you go indie?
There's such an upheaval taking place in the publishing industry right now. It used to be that an author could send out query letters, and if their work was halfway decent, find a publisher. The Internet has totally changed everything. Nonfiction books are being replaced by websites at an alarming rate, plunging even the strongest publishing companies into a panicked frenzy. They’re losing revenue and they’re scared, which translates into fewer opportunities for writers via traditional routes. Add to that, the exciting new era in indie publishing, and the decision was really very simple. I could either work for years trying to break into an industry that may or may not collapse, or I could write now, publish now. That's what I decided to do.

Q: Who are your favorite authors in your genre?
Robin McKinley, Dawn Cook
