Q: What will e-readers like about your book? This time out, Billy Lafitte is on the run, and he doesn't get to tell his own story. We see him from the outside, and we're introduced to a supporting cast who all want to see him either dead or brought to justice. It's an epic story, and you don't even have to have read the first Lafitte novel (Yellow Medicine) to get into it. A real thrill-a-minute sort of ride.
Q: Why did you go indie? This is the last of my backlist to go online, since the print contracts didn't included e-rights. I've been having a blast getting these books out to readers who missed them in print, and it's really jazzed me into writing more originals for the e-book marketplace.
Q: Who are your favorite authors in your genre? I've always got a few more to add. Chester Himes, one of the most gonzo of all the noir writers. James Lee Burke, who is a huge influence even though I fight it sometimes. Megan Abbott, just stunning. Can't forget my buddy Victor Gischler, who makes me jealous because his pulp is pulpier than mine.
